Best Prescott Parks & Lakes for the Family to Enjoy

Prescott provides residents and visiting families many amazing places to take their littles as they spend time downtown, and in the surrounding natural wilderness.

Each area offers something different, and provides a variety of entertainment for adults and kids alike. Kids can hone their fishing skills, enjoy splashing on the shoreline, or learn how to paddle a canoe on one of the nearby lakes.

With ample green space and a number of parks, Prescott is a great place for kids to get their beans out. Let them safely run wild through nature or check out some of the must-see playgrounds around town. Get ready to pack a picnic and spend the day watching your kids adventure, have fun, and make friends.

Watson Lake Park

Looking to check out a place where you can get out on the water and enjoy time on land? Watson Lake Park is the place for you. Watson Lake is the perfect place to launch a kayak or canoe for an easy paddle that takes you across the lake, or board a larger vessel to access the area’s rainbow trout fishing. Bring a picnic and spend some time at the playground, or let kids explore the shallow shores of the lake; they’ll love the cool rocks that are found there. Adventure-seekers will like the rock climbing that’s available, while those with little hikers will appreciate the groomed paths.

Granite Creek Splash Park

Bring your towels and your bathing suits, because you’re destined to get wet at the Granite Creek Splash Park. Open from June to September, the splash pad was designed with warm weather in mind. Channel your inner child and run through the misters, or get soaked by standing under the large bucket that dumps water (and fun) on those waiting below. The neighboring playground is a great option for kids looking to mix up their play, and the shady park area is a great spot for a picnic lunch. Wander down to the creek located below the splash pad and encourage your children to find tiny fish or frogs.

Willow Lake

A local’s favorite, Willow Lake is located a few miles from downtown Prescott. With its easy access and ample outdoor activities, Willow Lake is a great place for families. Bring a canoe or kayak to explore some of Willow Lake’s 400 acres of water surface. For those who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground, families can enjoy bird-watching, child-friendly hikes, and designated picnic spots. Kids will enjoy climbing the rocks of Granite Dells and sharing all their natural findings.

Granite Mountain Basin Lake

Families can enjoy Granite Mountain Basin Lake year-round. The picturesque lake has easily walkable trails that surround it, so even young hikers can make the trek. Fishing is extra fun for the littles as the lake is well stocked with fish. Explore the camping and picnicking areas, or hop on a horse to discover the trails and see all the park has to offer.

Courthouse Plaza

The Courthouse Plaza is what city center dreams are made of. Lined with mature trees with plenty of benches, your children will love exploring the leafy green space that is surrounded by some of Prescott’s best shops and restaurants. Famous Whiskey Row is across the plaza and is where Prescott’s history comes alive. Make sure to stop at Bill’s Pizza for a quick to-go pizza while checking out the many special events that take place in the plaza.

Hilton Garden Inn

If you’d rather head to a pool than a park or lake, the Hilton Garden Inn is located in downtown Prescott. It has a park next door and quick access to shops and restaurants, however the reason it’s so popular with kids is its pool. The heated pool is perfect for year-round swimming fun, and adults will enjoy soaking in the hot tub while the kids show off their latest skills.
